The Hectic Holidays

Each and every year, right as we're wrapping up harvest, we're already overdue to start planning the holiday season. This is what we call O-N-D in the business (October, November and December), signifying it's own season of gifting, wine sales and events. We were lucky with the early harvest this year to have more time in between the two, but it still seems like the season is here and gone before we know it.

This year we hosted our second annual Holiday Celebration in San Francisco. A fun time to gather with friends, family and of course our fantastic customers, we hire a caterer, decorate the space, and enjoy an evening of food, wine and fun. We previewed a few wines -- our 2013 Sauvignon Blanc and the 2013 Paraboll Pinot Noir -- and poured a few releases from the library.

The 2007 Zero New Oak Pinot Noir and 2007 All-In Pinot Noirs were drinking beautifully. They had fruit, earth, spice and will still go for some years to come. We're always very excited to enjoy our older releases and come away reaffirmed that our style can age gracefully and be enjoyed for years into the future.

This event always coincides with Winemaker Joe Webb's birthday, so we take the opportunity to celebrate and enjoy some city time. This year we went to Waterbar on the Embarcadero for a three-hour lunch. The food, the wine and the service was fantastic (a half-bottle of Krug Champagne and finishing with dessert always helps)!

Now that we've made it through Christmas, we look forward to enjoying a little time off in January. We take the opportunity to touch up paint, refinish the floors in the tasting room, and hopefully take advantage of a week or so to relax ourselves.

Our tasting room will be closed January 6-29, 2015. We will re-open on the 30th for our normal hours: Fri., Sat., Sun. and Mon. from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Save the date for the International Alsace Varietals Festival on February 7&8 (http://www.avwines.com/alsace-festival/).

In the meantime, Happy New Year!
